Gus was the founding energy and the spirit of the Foundation for Safe Boating.  His vision for a safer, more respectful and mutually beneficial community on the water continues to be a major influence in national USCG programs today!

From online chartplotting to dead reckoning, piloting to navigation, survival skills to emergency response, The Foundation promotes your participation in an active community of boaters along the East Coast of the United States from Maine to Florida!  Get involved today and help us share the boating safety message to our fellow boaters.

WHAT WE OFFER

All FSB Programs are FREE.

These programs – some of the first of  kind, offers participants a meaningful experience for appreciation of the waterfront of New York and the Eastern Coast of the US. Why not take a friend or family member in a wholesome, safe, confident manner.

Teach and Take a Kid

Annual program particpants can join FSB members on the water in cruising local waters around the New York bight, from Raritan Bay, NJ to Boston Harbor, these free programs are available near you. Contact us for more infomation!

Water Watch Program

Now nationally known as America’s Waterway Watch program under the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Commandant – a member of the Foundation President’s command staff during his tenure as 1SR NY USCGAux Division Captain, this program encourages fellow boaters to take an active part in their caretaking of our local waterways – looking out for future generations of fishing and recreational boaters

Marine Information Resource Program

Qualify for your OUPV “Six-Pack” or begin the process of becoming an Unlimited Master Offshore.  The Foundation staff can help find a program for you to become a better cruiser, racer, or fisher.

Boats for Sale Program

Want or Have a safe boat that has been inspected by the Foundation for safety and build quality? FSB can give you a valuation on a boat you want to donate, or find a boat that you can afford in our inventory

Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) Program

The Foundation provides material at all public events to promote sober boating.  The water is no place to operate while under the influence of drugs or alcohol legal or illegal.

The “Don’t Mix ‘Em” campaign is a modern continuation of the Works Progress Administration’s 1930’s poster series. Our volunteers offer these materials at Boat Shows, T&TK Cruises, and on request.

Gus Savaros

CEO, President and Founder

Former 1SR Division Captain of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Gus started the Foundation to fulfill a role he felt was left un-tended.  His vision is what makes FSB so very vital and important for over 35 years.

Rene “RJ” Coté

Captain RJ has been at the helm of the Public Education programs since 1998, and provides expert service to members of the community through his volunteering.
